The New 2012 Camry

It was only in the past several days that Akio Toyoda teased us with a stylized headlight of the 2012 camry. Although details are nonexistent, Toyoda assured us that this car will be one of the best ever. We sure hope so, given that the brand seems to have plateaued as of late. Weathering the storm for the past year, Toyota needs a breakout product fast. Aside from that we’ve gotten a hold of what is being called a 2012 Camry face shot. Thing is we have no idea if this is legit because it’s source is unknown. However, 2012 Toyota Camry is a bit of an evolutionary design that appears to make sense from a design perspective.

2012 Camry wasn’t that long ago that Toyota Motor Company (ADR: TM) stock was trading on the lower end of a 16-week channel. Now the stock has broken the early May high of 84 by closing just above it at 84.16. Could it be the breakout to higher highs? And is it the result of all the 2012 Camry news on the web? Not all news directly affects a stock. Some good news gets a stock trounced, while bad news can be ignored. It’s hard to tell on this one, but the mood for Toyota stock has definitely improved. Using the weekly chart for a trend bias evaluation, Toyota Motor Company (ADR: TM) stock looks like it is clearly trending well, and has been for the past several weeks. Perhaps that explains why the web is on fire with 2012 Camry expectation reports and spy photos everywhere, especially after Akio Toyoda released a peak of the front headlight, confirming the shot taken in May at least in that frontal area.

The overall dimensions of the new 2012 Camry are expected to carry over from the outgoing model, while Toyoda says the interior will take on a more ‘contemporary’, higher quality design. The new model will be powered by the ‘AR’ 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, replacing the 117kW/218Nm ‘AZ’ 2.4-litre unit in the current Australian model. The AR engine has been available in the US version of the Camry since 2009, and comes in two different forms: a 126kW/226Nm entry-level tune and a tweaked 133kW/230Nm tune. Toyota Australia is yet to confirm the specific performance data of its upcoming power train.

The new Camry will be sold as an automatic-only model in Australia, with a new six-speed unit set to replace the current five-speed. Toyota promises the new Camry will offer “improved performance and refined ride and handling. More details of the 2012 Camry will be revealed in the coming months in the lead up to its local launch at the end of this year.
