The silverstone classic has established itself as one of the foremost historic events in world motorsport. The rose tinted spectacle brigade will be out in force again for the three days in late July when over 600 glorious racing machines take to the Northamptonshire countryside. A celebration of motor racing across all decades from the 1920s to the early ’90′s, you’ll be hard pushed not to find something that tickles your fancy. F1′s, Sportscars, Saloons and single seaters will all be in action at the Home of British Motor Racing, many of them returning to familiar stomping ground where their legends were first born.

Silverstone is an English motor racing circuit next to the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. The circuit straddles the Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire border, with the current main circuit entry on the Buckinghamshire side. It is best known as the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948 and which has been held on the circuit every year since 1987. The circuit is also home to the BRDC International Trophy, formerly one of the premier non-Championship F1 races in the calendar, today awarded to the winner of a race for historic F1 cars at the annual silverstone classic meeting. The British Racing Drivers’ Club owns the circuit.

Silverstone classic, the world’s biggest classic motorsport festival, takes place next weekend. Silverstone classic runs from July 22 to 24, and celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2011. The event will feature the biggest gathering of Grand Prix cars ever seen. The Grand Prix Masters series will field a 32-strong grid of DFV-powered cars from the 1970s and early 1980s. Special appearances include an ex-Andretti Lotus 79 and ex-Fittipaldi McLaren M23. The HPGCA Pre-66 Rear Engine Grand Prix grid will feature no fewer than 50 cars, including the Lotus 25 that helped Jim Clark win the 1963 World Championship. Other big draws among the weekend’s 22 races will be the Group C field and E-Type Challenge. International race groups will be based at Club corner in the new F1 pit, while saloons and national races will be behind the old pits, with buses to link the two. There will be appearances from the likes of Jackie Oliver, Arturo Merzario and John Cleland.

Silverstone classic, the annual historic motorsport extravaganza, which for the past two years has been screened live on Motors TV, will host three, high-quality grids racing on the historic GP circuit, as well as displays and features at the Home of British Motorsport. So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a cross country van rental and then go to the silverstone classic.
