BMW X6 M50d is Not for USA
Rumors of BMW M launching a diesel model have been circulating for over a year, and confirmation has finally arrived in the form of three M-fettled oil-burners: the BMW X5 M50d, BMW X6 M50d and the 5-Series-based BMW M550d xDrive; each sporting all-wheel drive and the oft-rumored tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six.

The BMW X6models will be priced between the ’50i’ and ‘M’ variants, suggesting a potential price tag of around $150,000 for the BMW X5 M50d and $165,000 for the BMW X6. We’ll be seeing the BMW X5 M50d, BMW X6 and the BMW M550d xDrive live from the Geneva Motor Show in March.

And before you get excited, none of the BMW X5 M50d, BMW X6 M50d and the BMW M550d xDrive are slated for sale in the U.S. – this is a Euro-only affair; and if you’re wondering why we won’t see these M diesels here in the States, blame the necessity to reengineer the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) systems to make them comply with emissions standards across the country.

BMW is face-lifting its most controversial model, the BMW X6 M50d; and what better way of tidying up this coupe-cum-SUV than adding a diesel M version? The new BMW X6 is among the first of a new range of stop-gap M models to slot between the full M GmbH cars and the trim-level M Sport models.

BMW X6 will sit alongside the new BMW M550d xDrive also unveiled at the same time. BMW X6 M50d has a new upgraded version of the same 3.0-litre straight six TwinPower turbo diesels, with greater boost from three turbochargers to deliver 376bhp and a monstrous-sounding 546lb ft of torque.

The BMW X6 benefits from the unique expertise of BMW M engineers, with a special, fine-tuned powertrain, suspension and steering system. The end result is an automobile that offers an exhilarating combination of sheer dynamism, comfort and everyday usability; the BMW X6 is the most powerful diesel BMW has ever built.

The BMW X6 will arrive with the facelift of the X6 range, which is also due around the middle of the year. The BMW X6 get subtle exterior aerodynamic and styling enhancements, including grey metallic mirrors and air intake bars, trapezoidal exhaust pipes and high-gloss alloy wheels.

The BMW X6 interior is highlighted with Alcantara upholstery elements, contrast stitching, BMW M steering wheel with paddle shifters, and aluminium trim inserts. The BMW X6 long options list includes a number of BMW ConnectedDrive assistance systems: head-up display, adaptive headlights, night vision wit pedestrian detection, active cruise control, and lane-change warning system, along with internet access and real-time traffic and speed limit information.
BMW X6 M50d Under the Hood
The BMW X6 M50d powertrains are powered by the same all-new diesel engine. The subject of much speculation, the 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo unit will indeed use three turbochargers (a first for BMW) to help the BMW X6 produce 280kW of power (4000-4400rpm) and 740Nm of torque (2000-3000rpm); those power figures may be some way off the 408-412kW produced by the X5 M, X6 M and M5, but all three generate 60Nm more torque than the V8 petrol-powered performance flagships.

BMW says the BMW X6 ensure maximum power delivery across a wide rev band. The BMW X6 could accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.3secs and burns through 7.7L/100km. The BMW X6 model is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Air suspension on the rear axle and the Self-leveling Adaptive Drive are standard on the BMW X6 .
