2012 Scion xB Still Has Undeniable Appeal
Scion finally revealed the new Scion 2012 models, dubbed the 2012 Scion xB which is a compact people mover and cargo hauler that packs lots of high-tech audio features. Although the 2012 Scion xB space-efficient boxy form doesn’t enjoy the same uniqueness it once did, it still has a few advantages.

The Scion xB 2012 boasts more maximum cargo space than most rivals and even some midsize SUVs. Passenger space is just as impressive, with enough head- and legroom for a quartet of tall adults. In fact, the rear accommodations are so spacious that some big city cab companies have traded their Crown Vics for 2012 Scion xB.

Scion announced pricing of two new Scion 2012 Models: the xD Release Series 4.0 (xD RS 4.0) and the Scion xB 2012 Release Series 9.0 (xB RS 9.0). The two Scion 2012 models debuted today at the 2011 State Fair of Texas and will arrive in dealer showrooms in October. The Scion xB Release Series 9.0 comes exclusively in Hot Lava paint color which also features a unique black honeycomb pattern lower grill with a large Hot Lava “SCION” script incorporated in it.

Front and rear Scion badges illuminate when the vehicle is unlocked with the remote keyless entry. On the Scion xB 2012 Release Series 9.0 inside front and rear seat covers are perforated synthetic suede featuring an embossed Scion logo and body-colored trim. Scion will only build 1500 of the Scion xB 2012 Release Series 9.0 models and each will come with an illuminated individually numbered badge.

Manual equipped versions start at $18,840 and automatic equipped 2012 Scion xB Release Series 9.0 start at $19,790. Starting on October 3, Zeus, the creator of the High Voltage 2012 Scion tC Rs 7.0, will be seen in a 30-second broadcast spot to introduce the 2012 Scion xB Release Series 9.0 & xD RS 4.0, while Scion will offer additional support through print, online & out-of-home in early October.
Much of what we’ve come to know about the second generation xB has been left untouched for their 2012 Scion xB version, except for the addition of standard Bluetooth hands-free and HD radio technology. MSRP for Scion xB 2012 remains aggressive within their market as the five-speed manual retails for $16,300 while the four-speed automatic is at $17,250.

Both 2012 Scion xB models will come standard with Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio to complement its HD Radio technology for 2012. The standard 160-watt Pioneer audio system will allow users to wireless stream audio from their phone to the vehicle’s sound system. iPod, iPhone, CNET car stereos and other portable music players can also be connected directly to the system through the USB or AUX port.

The Drawbacks
The main drawback to the 2012 Scion xB is its fuel economy relative to other small cars. That said, the 158-horsepower four-cylinder is surprisingly punchy and achieves fuel economy that’s about the same as or better than crossovers like the Chevy Equinox.

Furthermore, the 2012 Scion xB is cheaper and offers similar interior space, so it’s still a smart alternative to those popular family vehicles, such as the Nissan Versa 1.8 SL, Suzuki SX4 Sportback, and Dodge Caliber SXT Plus. Of course saying “Scion xB” and “family vehicle” in the same sentence is like mentioning Barry Manilow and Ke$ha in the same breath. But rest assured, for those who are so hip they’re square, the Scion xB 2012 still has undeniable appeal. The car will begin rolling into dealerships next month, and for those who need a higher performance, the new 2013 xB is in the work.
