2011 Volkswagen Jetta Has Been Fully Redesigned
For the first time in the car’s 30-year history, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is not the new Volkswagen sedan version of the VW Golf. The next-generation Jetta sedan has been fully redesigned for 2011 Volkswagen Jetta model year. While the new Volkswagen Jetta is bigger yet more affordable than before, it has lost many of the special attributes that formerly distinguished it from the pack.

Unlike its predecessors, the Volkswagen Jetta 2011 is built on its own platform—meaning it does not rely on Golf architecture. As a result, the Volkswagen Jetta 2011 sedan is 3.5 inches longer than the previous model; this translates to more space, and greater passenger comfort.

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is an all-new sixth-generation model. The overall appearance nearly mirrors that of other Volkswagen cars, NCC Concept, which previewed at the North American International Auto Show in January of 2010. The rounded headlights and bumpers are now trapezoidal, and nearly all of the chrome bright work, so prominent on the last model, has been replaced by matte finishes or paint. The Volkswagen Jetta 2011 sides feature more of Volkswagen’s “Design DNA,” including the shoulder “tornado” line and emphasized wheel arches.
Under the Hood and Inside the Car
Volkswagen will sell five different Volkswagen Jetta 2011 models: S, SE, SEL, GLI and TDI. While specific model information has not been released, standard features is expected to include cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, and an anti-theft alarm system. Standard audio systems of the new Volkswagen sedan will feature an AM/FM radio with a single CD player (MP3 format readable), and 8 speakers. Trim-specific equipment is expected to include upgraded V-Tex (vinyl) upholstery, available leather upholstery, split-folding rear seats, power glass sunroof, and 17-inch alloy wheels (18-inch alloys will also be offered, says Volkswagen).

The Volkswagen Jetta 2011 comes standard with traction and stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. All have antilock brakes with brake assist; however, the S and SE have rear drums. While the Volkswagen Jetta 2011 SEL and TDI get rear discs. The standard powertrain for the front-wheel-drive is a 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 170 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox (Volkswagen’s “Tiptronic” unit).

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta has a disappointing interior, something we’ve never said about a Jetta before. Though build quality is still tight, the high-quality, soft-touch materials of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta have been replaced by cheap hard surfaces. Well, this is somewhat different compared to Mazda MAZDA3 I SV and Nissan Versa 1.8 SL.

The only significant changes in the 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS competitor, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta interior include the moving of the driver’s window switches up the door and the ovoid dash vents have been squared. The climate control, radio and navigation controls have also been redesigned to be easier to use. For all that, the new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is quite roomy; it’s easy to find a comfortable seating position, and a full-size adult can sit in the back with room to spare.
