2011 Prius is Basically a Rerun of the 2010 Model Year

After a major redesign last year, there are no significant changes for the 2011 Prius. You could be forgiven for thinking the 2011 Prius has a big target painted on its side, after all, people like to gun for you when you’re on top, and the Prius has been the king of the green car sales charts for years now. This year, in particular, there are many new choices for a fuel-efficient car. The good news for Toyota is that the 2011 Prius itself is better than ever. Last year, Toyota engineers reduced the aerodynamic drag of the 2010 Prius, and the overall look is now sleeker and sportier. Under the hood, a larger gas engine and stronger electric motor combine for more power and better fuel economy — the 2010 Prius has a combined EPA fuel economy estimate of 50 mpg, the best of any conventional hybrid vehicle. The newest 2011 Prius also has revised suspension tuning and improved electric steering to help make it more agile than before.

The 2011 Prius styling is unchanged, it’s remains a highly aerodynamic five-passenger car with a low hood, radically swept-back windshield, arching roofline, and tall tail. 2011 Prius has compact-car exterior dimensions but enough interior room to qualify as a midsize car under federal standards. 2011 Prius high ceiling creates large doorways and chair-like seating with plenty of head room. Rear seaters have generous knee and toe space, but the bench isn’t quite wide enough to hold three adults in comfort. The range of features in this 2011 Prius does not change, though perhaps by now it should have, given Toyota’s promise to release an entry-level stripper model, tentatively called the Prius One. As you might know by now, Toyota will also bring a “compact people-mover” version of the hybrid Prius. The car, set to be called the 2011 Prius Alpha, is in its final stages of development and will be unveiled in March 2011

The 2011 Prius is basically a rerun of the 2010 Prius. The 2011 Toyota Prius retains its 50-plus-mpg rating and innovative options such as a solar-powered ventilation system. The 2011 Prius represents the third-generation version of the world’s most recognizable hybrid. Following a full redesign for the 2010 Prius model-year, 2011 Prius is larger, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than the second-generation 2004-2009 model, and it remains the world’s best-selling hybrid by far. The question is, should you buy a 2011 Prius or wait for the 2012 Prius? If you’re intrigued by the latest advance in gas-electric science, the plug-in hybrid, wait for the 2012 Prius, instead of the 2011 Prius.
