The 2007 Cadillac Escalade is all-new with more decadence, power, luxury features and bolder styling than any American sport-utility vehicle in history. In addition to providing five-star comfort, the Cadillac Escalade goal is to be the ultimate symbol of power and achievement, a mansion on wheels.

It’s obvious that Cadillac’s “art and science” design team had its way with the used Cadillac Escalade, angles are sharper, the sheet metal is pulled tight, and the family resemblance to the midsize SRX is strong. The Cadillac Escalade Sixteen concept provided the inspiration for the 16-section, cross-hatch grille.

Panel gaps are noticeably tighter, especially around the bumpers, which now attach to the 2007 Cadillac Escalade body instead of the frame, of course there’s quite a bit of chrome detailing — from the grille to the gratuitous fender vents to the body-side molding — but Cadillac officials are careful to note that they didn’t overdo it.

A new 6.2L V-8 rated at 403 horsepower (301 kw) and 417 lb.-ft. of torque (565 Nm) is exclusive to the 2007 Cadillac Escalade, this all-aluminum engine uses variable valve timing (VVT) to optimize camshaft timing to improve low-rpm torque and high-rpm horsepower.

The introduction of variable valve timing through the unique, dual-equal cam phase in the 2007 Cadillac Escalade is the industry’s first application of VVT on a mass-produced V-8 overhead-valve engine. The unique dual-equal phase adjusts the camshaft timing at the same rate for both the intake and exhaust valves.
